[5NL] QJs UTG against shortstack

Results 1 to 19 of 19
  1. #1

Default [5NL] QJs UTG against shortstack

BB is new to table playing first hand.

SB is also fairly new to table. 29/0 through 14 hands.

    PokerStars - $0.05 NL (6 max) - Holdem - 5 players
    Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

    BB: $8.70
    Hero (UTG): $8.53
    CO: $5.11
    BTN: $5.18
    SB: $1.89

SB posts SB $0.02, BB posts BB $0.05

Pre Flop: (pot: $0.07) Hero has Q J

Hero raises to $0.15, fold, fold, SB calls $0.13, BB calls $0.10

    Flop: ($0.45, 3 players) J 9 T
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $0.30, SB calls $0.30, fold

    Turn: ($1.05, 2 players) 4
    SB checks, Hero ???

I am happy to get my stack in here right? If we assign villain a range of 99+,A2s+,KJs+,AJo+,KJo+ on the turn...does that seem a fair range or am I way off? I realize it's not a huge sample more of a general query really.

You can't just give any suited A2+. Does he get to the turn with A2cc? A2hh? What happens when you put A2dd+ instead?

You shouldn't be happy to stack off here, if he raises the turn you're like never good, but that won't happen too often and if he calls you're usually good so bet.

Your range sucks because you're not discounting monsters, you're not including stupid 8 and Q draws, and the aforementioned problem with A2, which supa didn't even mention that he's not calling 2 with, if even 1 on this board given that I assume you're using that range to determine if you should vbet or not.

Bet flop bigger on this wet board.

Work on this turn range. AA, KK would likely 3b pre. Lots of made hands would also donk or c/r this wet flop.

OK so how do I that? Stove only lets me put in A2s, doesn't let me take away suits or anything like that?

Ad2d would give you specifically Ace and 2 of diamonds in stove. Try adding a + to the end of it

Ad2d works, as soon as I add a + to the end of it the bar goes pink and it doesn't recognise it as a hand range.

specifying suits is definitely doable, if someone hasn't posted how by the time I finish work I'll load up stove at home and work it out

Edit: found this (I really need to work more and post less lol)

Open stove and hit player 1. Select preflop and then AKs. In the lower right hand corner you will see the four suits. Right now they are all selected. Deselect the ones you don't want.

OK I am getting a little frustrated now, I am sorry about this.

When I click each square of A2s through to AKs, then I take away the other 3 suits I don't want it gives me this 'AdKd,AQs-A2s' which is clearly not what I want.

EDIT - After watching that video I realize why. When he is clicking the boxes they are purple. When I first click a box it goes purple, however, when I click a second box that one turns purple and the previous box turns yellow. How do I stop this from happening?

You have to do them one at a time. Select AKs-deselect suits. Select AQs-deselct suits...

I got it. I had to hold ALT and press A2s and it would auto select all the suited A's up to AKs then I could de-select the suits for the whole range. Thanks for all your help and thanks Lucofish for posting that video.

Are these ranges more accurate now?

So many reasons that Equilab is superior to Pokerstove coming out in this thread.

Using Equilab, you can give Villain a pre-flop range, then you can put a flop in and open a window that allows you to interact with Villains range, and even allows you to auto-sort the range for hands that hit the board in a specific way. Then you just click a button that says "Take modified range to main window."

I have equilab as well but just got used to using stove. May start giving that a try.

    Get a mop.

Put in a range on equilab and then put in a flop.

Then click on the pie chart to the right of the range, next to the Equity.

Use mop to clean up brain asploding.

Hold SHIFT when clicking on the hands you want to include on villains range in pokerstove not ALT.
